It looks like this story may be getting some legs.

This is about the Verso report to which Andrew referred.

http://www.offshorewind.biz/2011/03/02/for-every-green-job-four-other-are-lost-uk/

In 2009 the Guardian was exulting about Modec.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/sep/23/electric-van-viable-cleantech-alternative

Now,from Coventry.

http://www.coventryobserver.co.uk/story-Jobs-lost-as-city-firm-goes-bust-36398.html

From the Guardian, this homily.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/mar/08/modec-crash-commercial-electric-vehicle?INTCMP=SRCH

Modec blamed "severe cash flow difficulties" and blamed the tough economic climate", which is loser speak for "wrong product, wrong price, wrong timing, wrong idea". The free market eventually fisks all delusions. To lose £40 million and think you've got a viable business is moronic.

"Reports have suggested Northumberland-based Liberty Electric Cars have come forward as a potential buyer, and Ryan Grant, a partner at Zolfo Cooper, said despite Modec's troubles, the company was a market leader and an attractive purchase "for the right buyer."

What words do these cretins not ***in' understand. I'm a market leader, me! Duh!

250 billion for one half of one half a degree.
bargain?

Mar 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM | Unregistered Commenterbanjo

Nope Banjo, not 0.5 but .0.05! Still a hell of a price when, as the guys on the show said, China will keep on building coal fired power stations at the rate of one a week!!

Sorry Banjo, just re-read your post! Now off to sit in the corner!

250 billion dollars the cost to Europe by 2020 I wonder how much it will cost Europe for the following 80 years up to 2100 when Europe alone will have reduced world temperatures by 0.05%.

Err, well, a, a, umm, well, run that by me again.

Mar 10, 2011 at 2:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartyn

whoops 0.05 Degrees I mean!

Mar 10, 2011 at 3:11 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartyn

Pete/Banjo

Thats one tenth of one half a degree or one twentieth! (0.5 is ten times 0.05)

Actually, it's €270 billion every year.

"Hedegaard's plans are expected to cost an estimated 270 billion euros (380 billion dollars) per year if the historic switchover is to become a reality -- and the budget can hardly be expected to come down."

From the 6th.
