A hit, a palpable hit!

Hi Josh, any chance of making a full scale A4 PDF out of it? I think that is a wonderful "cubicle" wall post...

Simply brilliant - Josh, you have excelled yourself!

At the risk of spreading Willie Waggledagger puns (and some sort of corporate-americanese), may I offer "Now is the winter of our disconnect." ?

Shakespeare was rather good at this climate stuff!

"winter of our disconnect"

Tim - you do know that is already a book title? Still apposite, I grant you.

I see the Met Office has admitted that that they did provide a long range forecast to the Cabinet Office, and I quote, "We provided a long-range forecast to the Cabinet Office at the end of October highlighting the risk of a cold start to the winter."

Note the words "risk of".

Was that a 75% risk of a cold start to winter, 50%, 25% or 5%? What was the calculated risk?

The Met Office must have this figure to hand, the release of this information could redeem their reputation for accuracy, but they seem very reticent to publish it. Such behaviour does not reflect well on the organisation.

Thou art not so unkind
As man's ingratitude;"

There is a 95% chance that Madame Metoffsky provided a forecast with 5% risk of a severe winter to the Cabinet Office. That leaves a 5% chance the Cabinet Office will simply deny they got it and a 100% chance they'll hang the MetOff out to dry.

I think a FOIA request for that "prediction" would be interesting, and probably read about the way you suggest. And given the grief Whitehall took for the mess at the airports and highways, you probably have their reaction to Madame Metoffsky's statement about right. She should learn to stop digging when in a hole, and what ever she does, she shouldn't use a JCB digger (aka back hole).

I don't know where Sky News get their weather info from right now, but they've just signed a new contract with Meteogroup: http://tinyurl.com/36b7oue

Clearly, the Met Office didn't cut the mustard.

Mac said "I see the Met Office has admitted that that they did provide a long range forecast to the Cabinet Office, and I quote, "We provided a long-range forecast to the Cabinet Office at the end of October highlighting the risk of a cold start to the winter.""

I was reading a National Grid winter forecast dated Oct 2010. They state the Met Office have stopped publishing forecasts then follow that by quoting other informationfrom the Met Office website.

"25. The Met Office have now ceased publication of their long term winter weather
forecast however their website continues to provide long term analyses. For the
period of December through to February the data presented suggests:
• a 60 – 80% probability of above normal temperatures
• a 20 – 40% probability of near normal temperatures
• a 0 – 20% probability of below normal temperatures"

Dear Bishop,

o/t

I found this on Piers Corbyn..

Perhaps it might be an idea to change the name "GLOBAL WARMING"

TO

"Goebbels Warming"

Now there is a possible alternative to that created by the IPCC.

even before Harrabin claimed the Met Office secretly warned the Govt a big freeze was coming, i thought the story about the govt planning to penalise the airports/airlines was funny; post-Harrabin, it seemed hilarious as the Govt would no doubt be obliged to inform all essential service sectors if they had advance warning. then the MSM reported the laws would change almost immediately:

29 Dec: Daily Mail: Tim Shipman and David Gardner: Repeat of Christmas travel chaos could land airports million-pound fines
Aviation Minister Theresa Villiers confirmed yesterday that there would be a change in the law.
She said: ‘We’re going to be introducing a bill over the next few months to modernise the system and hold airports to account, whether it’s winter resilience, queuing times or other issues that affect passengers...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1342503/Christmas-travel-chaos-repeat-land-airports-million-pound-fines.html

not surprised the story has changed already:

3 Jan: Guardian: Dan Milmo: BAA could escape heavy fines for more snow chaos
Bill to penalise airport operators for service failures could be delayed until 2012
The Department for Transport is negotiating with business managers in parliament to find a slot in the crowded legislative schedule for an airport economic regulation bill. If no slot is available, next year is the likely date for enacting a bill that would penalise airport owners for poor service, including any repeat of the unexpected shutdown of Heathrow before Christmas that stranded hundreds of thousands of travellers and left many sleeping on terminal floors...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/jan/03/baa-could-escape-heavy-fine

this matter needs full investigation, but the MSM will not do it.

Bishop Hill (of course)
James Delingpole
Watts Up With That
Climate Audit?

Great performance!

Josh,

I double-checked, and there isn't a comma after "discontent" in the original verse; having one changes the nuance ever so slightly. But apart from that, I think this is the most aesthetically pleasing of your creations to date.
