Hopefully now they have got that out of their system, they can move on, and concentrate on what the GWPF are actually saying... Yet, I imagine, tory donor equals bad, must be wrong,evil, etc will pervail..

Who has gives rather LESS (tens of thousands?) to the GWPF than the Grantham Institute for climate change funder (Jeremy Grantham), another billionaire with a hedge fund... who has given ten of MILLIONS)

And how did the Graun obtain this world-shattering scoop? The donor told them.
“In an email to an approach by a climate change project for funding”, Hintze declined the request, writing that he was "fully committed at this time. Furthermore we are supporting Nigel Lawson's initiative."
The story here is that a rich man who supports the V&A, the Tory Party, and Prince Charles’ projects, among other things, also supports the GWPF.

Unfortunately this is a prime example of what passes for "news" in the Grauniad.
No mention, of course, of the $millions that the likes of George Soros (the evil capitalist who forced the £ out of the ERM) gives to organisations supporting/producing propaganda for climate change.
Interesting to know that Hintze has dined with the Camerons. I wonder if they talked about windmills?
They seem to have typing issues still, where as £1.4Bn fortune is translated into £880M? At least they rightly identify the GWPF as an Educational Charity!

So I read this and load of "facts" are strewn through the piece about cash and lolly and so on (they love itemising this the Graun) but really there is not much there. More of the pseudo-scoop that is so prevalent in climate reporting.
To sum up - some climate charity - on the "right" side - asked this guy Hintze for money, he said no and volunteered that he was already "supporting Nigel Lawson's initiative." gotta mean GWPF right?, but we still don't know how much he gives GWPF, or even if certainly does. No doubt this lovely "right" side charity came running to the Guardian and let them know that it "appears to indicate he is financially supporting the [GWPF]" I wonder what that charity is?
Anyway sweet. The world is a better place yet again thanks to the Graun and Cameron has been embarassed because of his green stance. Good, I'm all for Cameron being embarassed. I'm sure Cameron will return the £1.5 Million that Hintze gave him now.

Well that pulls the rug from under the cAGWists. They were completely wrong in their assertions about BIG OIL. Why am I not surprised?

If ever a more supportive quote and source could ever be found.

That negative publicity is working well there, well done.

Why not all join the GWPF as a sign of support, in protest and on principle..

Michael Hintze is a professional market gambler. I would not be surprised if he is backing both sides of the arguement to minimise his risk. Now that is what I call hedging your bets.

Wow. I am underwhelmed by the earthshattering nature of this story.
A man I - and seemingly nobody else has either - have ever heard of, but who may have dined with David Cameron, has given some money to the GWPF.
Did I miss the exciting bit? Where he is a Russian spy or a mafioso or a mass murderer or a shadowy well-funded Big Oil Denier or some other hate figure? Are scary 'Dark Forces' in play? Perhaps Icke is right and it really is the Giant Lizards running the place..........??
Or can I contemplate my usual post-prandial snoozette with equanimity?

Oh I hope so! In my humble opinion we could do with a proper tory leader of a proper tory governement to put right what labour and their fellow quislings have put wrong.
Surely now would be a graet time for an election: The Limp dems are about as popular as a plate of cold sick, Labour...well... the have Ed Milliand in charge and his dream team of Ed Balls and Harperson joining him on the front front bench.
Get some proper tories in, repeal the Human rights Act, The Climate Change Act, a referendum on europe and a slashing of the welfare state.
It will be an uphill battle against the axis of evil that is the Guardian/ BBC (oh, lets kill the telly tax as well) but victory could see us prosper again.
The current course the good ship britain is heading is like that of the 'Crimson Permanent Assurance'. Off the edge of the known world.....

You could deal with the bbc and their print version (guardian) in two simple steps. One, force the bbc to advertise all of its vacancies on its own website instead of nearly exclusively in the guardian and two, defund the bbc and force it to compete on level terms with the proper commercial channels like sky etc.

As to the attacks on those with Economics degrees, may I remind this august company that some of the most serious analysis of the temperature data series has come from those with a background in econometrics, whilst many of the chicken littles have degrees in physics.

I think, looking at the character of this person, it goes to prove that real people who care a bit about the world and thier fellows, are not CAGW believers. Martin - I'm sure after Gleick's Fakegate everybody is aware that 1$ spent to reason about climate science is equivalent (wrt its practical results) to around 3,000$ spent to create undue alarmism about climate science.
So the GWPF is on-par with the WWF.
