Aug 23, 2012 Climate: Sceptics This from Paul Maynard
After the excellent Steve McIntyre talk last week, a considerable crowd repaired to the pub.
I would be happy to organise a repeat gathering at least as far as picking a location is concerned. There is a similar gathering being organised in Oxford next week but I won't be able to attend that.
No formality, except to say that the invite is open to all opinions not just the sceptical variety.
Let me know geographic preference, e.g. Covent Garden, West End or City.

Don't care where. I'll come if I can. Please try to avoid the Oxford day, that's all.
Let's do it in Antarctica to prove the point that climate skeptics are not penguin-haters and that we really care about the penguins. No person with a penguin outfit should be allowed in. Vice versa in the Arctic with the polar pears, should we decide to have our meeting there.
Prague is a good spot - cheap beer if you know where to go & of course the Czech Republic has a prominent sceptic on hand :)
If we renamed it as "Climate Communication Initiative" and claimed it'll be up to 2013 only (because climate change will reach a tipping point then, making London uninhabitable), we could get enough taxpayers' money support to meet up in Antarctica for real.
A polar bear goes into a pub and asks: "Do you serve caring climatologists?"
Barman: "Yes."
Bear: "Good, I'm starving, a ................. climatologist and a pint please!"

How about Norwich?
Anyone meeting in Norwich would no doubt make it very quick.....still, you could get paid a lot for turning up and following the party line.
If it was in Norwich would Phil's Mum be able to come along?

KnR: I was thinking of the Oxburgh enquiry.....
Since I have tried them may I recommend the following City Wetherspoon pubs for cheapness and space: The Cross Keys; The Green Man; The Knights Templar. The first is near Leadenhall Market, the second by Bank, and the third is behind the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand.
Fine idea as a follow up to last Thursday. Anywhere central fine for me.

Visiting a London pub and returning home same day would require total abstinence which is something I am incapable of dealing with >.<
Could we have a recommended place to spend the night which does not require being in the rich list?

Any midweek evening after 9th September would be good for me. A slight preference for Covent Garden/Strand area, but pretty easy otherwise. And - if poss - an early evening start...17:30ish.

My favourites:
Albannach, 66 Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, London, WC2N 5DS - best whisky list in London, they can block off a mezzanine for small parties. Bit pricey though.
Captains Cabin, 4 to7 Norris Street, Piccadilly, London, SW1Y 4RJ - lots of space, close to transport but away from tourists. Good value but slightly 'tired'
Silver Cross, 33 Whitehall, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2BX. Great old pub but lots of beards discussing policy.
Excellent initiative. Probably cannot attend as I live in Birmingham. If there's anyone in Birmingham who wants to meet up, I'll organise it.
