Nov 17, 2014 Climate: Parliament GWPF have some pretty amazing news from Germany. It seems that the powers that be in Berlin have finally recognised that their energy policies are a busted flush. If the story in Der Spiegel is correct then the country is going to cancel its decarbonisation targets forthwith.

jamspid, how weird, just before your football reference my mind let fly a little chant of its own at the thought we might follow the German lead. "Here we go, here we go, here we gooooo". And I'm not a football fan.
Well they know they aren't going to meet the targets. All those wind and solar farms aren't going to help meet the targets. Closing nuclear power stations and opening coal-fired power stations are going to make the targets even further away. The only way they will meet the targets is by exporting all the manufacturing industry to China and the USA, which is what they are doing anyway. Only the greens are stupid enough to believe that targets can be met by renewable rather than nuclear.
With Germany in retreat, that means that Britain alone is world leader

The massive US landslide against a climate alarm focused liberal message was a warning to sociopathic politicians that alarm is now a toxic issue as a real backlash kicks in. This even forced liberal candidates to run against Obama in favor of energy production. It's likely that Obamacare lies will lift liberal protection of climate “scientists” who have had Obama and actual PR firms strong arming funding reliant working scientists from speaking out. As alarm becomes even more embarrassing, few libertarian activist liberals will convert to the Tea Party but neither will they bother to vote at all. As they age out of idealism they will swing right due to rebellion against indoctrination as long as conservatives moderate their Bible thumping nanny state creationists.
Pity that Spiegel still does not know the difference between steam (in photograph from cooling towers) and coal burning pollution (no picture). If Greens saw that it is not CO2 but general pollution from coal that is presently causing a problem (see any photo of Chinese city visibility) we might get a better discussion.

This is a good example of how fringe Green parties can have an undue influence, way in excess of their percentage vote. This sensible decision (if it comes to pass) would never have happened if the Greens had been part of the current German coalition govt., holding the balance of power.

This is a major step on the road back to sanity. Everyone with 2 braincells to rub together knows that the emission reduction targets are unrealistic. Now a German politician has said so and been heard.

To me, it seems that recently, the backlash against rampant greenery is just starting to snowball.
@TinyCO2 yes General Ed Davey and his Charge of the No-Light Brigade - Just in case people don't know the Charge of The Light Brigade is ultimate example of in military futility of charging blindly into battle with terrible terrible consequences as the other divisions behind decide not to follow, so is rather apt comparison into the way the UK has Ed Davey's mad energy policies and when someone else points out the rest of the world isn't as insane in actually following such CO2 targets ..Davey & his dramgreen friends delude themselves .."See we are world leaders". Yet the very same policies are responsible for the way corps have been afraid to invest in new reliable power stations in the UK, hence today's capacity crisis ..in "keeping the lights on"

If Germany forgoes it's targets then no one else in the Euro zone can argue for them, Germany is still the power house of Europe, bye bye green dreams, hello reality.

Seems everyone knew all along that they could never reach the targets, but the game is to set a trap for her SPD Socialist coalition partners, as half of them love the target and half admit it's impossible.
The article is just unsubstantiated quotes by Der Spiegel - nothing official. Personally I would be surprised if Germany abandons the targets at this time. Europe has just announced new CO2 targets, and while that "Agreement" is meaningless it looks good morally and in the media. Surely Germany will officially stick to their targets until after the Paris IPCC conference collapses late next year?
Eventually Germany will have to abandon the CO2 targets, or the nuclear shutdown idiocy instead. Intermittent electricity will be economically, politically and socially catastrophic. (There's no way electric cars are going to be significant enough by 2020 to help either).
While the Germans have a headline policy they also have a realistic policy hidden under the table. The UK on the other hand have never had any policy for years beyond a dumb reliance on the 'market'; ie foreign-owned cartels.
