Greens trashing the environment part 624

Environmentalism, I sometimes think, is simply a form of narcissism. Most of those involved seem in it more to give themselves a sense of purpose than because they actually care very much about the world around them or indeed anyone else. Take a look at this story from Washington state:

While Seattle was focused on kayaktivists attempting to blockade Shell's oil drill rig on Monday, an entirely different operation was taking place under the water's surface.

A cleanup crew with divers spent the morning picking up pieces of anchor and cable left from the initial Shell protests in May. The cement anchor blocks and steel cables were left behind from the Solar Pioneer protest barge. Divers say they damaged a dive park and a protected habitat.

This is of course the same organisation that trashed the Nazca lines in an (ultimately successful) bid to get themselves some publicity. They remain a registered charity in the UK.

Can you believe these jerks?

All these pricks stick together and defend one another:

"Obviously, if Shell wasn't in the area, the activists wouldn't be in the area, and none of this would have happened," du Preez said. "I, and our group, consider this whole incident as collateral damage, as the net result of all this activity."

du Preez noted that nobody is blaming Shell for the damage done to the dive park, and that GUE [Global Underwater Explorers, a nonprofit aquatic conservation group] is thankful for their help.

"The nature of Shell's business attracts this kind of activist behavior and Shell recognizes that, and has social responsibility programs in place to deal with this kind of thing," he said.

So, apparently, it is all because of Shell and Shell have an obligation to take responsibility for putting it right.

These guys are so completely delusional are completely oblivious to how they are perceived by people with an ounce of common sense

Seen today's Stonehenge full of garbage photo which Steve Goddard tweeted ? ..and then someone added a label

: "The Pope had a point when he described the Earth as an immense pile of filth..." ..it is where you leave DramaGreens to clean up their own mess.

Can't help thinking that if any modern Greens started trying to boss around the original builders of Stonehenge they'd get short shrift.

Environmentalism, I sometimes think, is simply a form of narcissism.

Of course it is.

It is the constant attempt to portray oneself as the noble hero, the David of environmental purity versus the Goliath of evil polluting business and a compliant or cowed establishment.

The fact that Green organisations are the establishment these days doesn't register with these people, as narcissism in incompatible with self-awareness.

I think the Bish, artwest and Rick Bradford all have it right ^.^ In addition Rick maybe made a Freudian slip " the David of environmental purity versus the Goliath of evil polluting"
The David is our own David the P.M. who is desperate to be seen leading the fight against (fill in anything you like). Unfortunately Our Dave does not have the brains to figure out what to fight against and needs to be spoon fed by the nearest person (idiot) with an opinion.
Our Dave has also forgotten that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' hehe

Speaking of enviro-narcissism, Solar Impulse Airways Flight 666 Nagoya to Hawaii still hasn't left the gate. The passenger-pilot must be getting through his duty free at a rate of knots.

Jun 22, 2015 at 3:20 PM | Unregistered Commentermichael hart

michael hart:

I suspect the Cutty Sark would manage the trip at a rather more rapid rate of knots. 4,871 miles from Abu Dhabi to Nagoya - or 4,230 n.m. in 105 days so far is less than 1.68 knots. Cutty Sark managed London to Sydney in 73 days.

If Canada is paying to remove the concrete anchor blocks dumped on the sea bed by Greenpeace, shouldn't they return them to the nearest Greenpeace office, preferably in front of the entrance doors? Greenpeace love publicity, and it could create some great photographic opportunities.

Or just dump them at the entrance to one of their carparks, which they would claim not to need.

It doesn't add up...
Cutty Sark had an equally fast contemporaries in Thermopylae, which sailed on her maiden voyage from Gravesend to Hobson's Bay, Melbourne, in 63 days; the fastest passage on record , Ariel, Taeping and the aptly named Racing Home amongst others. A more practical form of transport.

Yeesss!!!
All the tweenie-greenies I know are only too happy to jump on an aeroplane to fly to the other side of the world for their holidays, but they do all think wind power is wonderful!

Your dave is not stupid. He has made £millions for dad in law and other friends BUT he is niave or not streetwise He'll fall for any con going as long as he can see no evil.

The kayaktivists are a bit inconsistent, using kayaks and protective clothing derived from petrochemicals, when they could use traditional materials such as seal skins, polar bear fur and whalebones, as the Inuit have for 1000s of years.

They could also eat the seals, polar bears and whales, so nothing need go to waste. The Inuit were so in tune with Mother Nature.

If all the scientists living at the South Pole adopted similar practices, fossil fuel would only be required to transport their food and clothing across the frozen wastes, from the coast, not all the way from South America or Australia. It would be so much more friendly to the environment. A celebrity chef could do a whole new series on exciting blubber cuisine. Killer whales won't be able to get enough of it.

Don't forget about the Greenpeace boss flying to work - on expenses !

From the Guardian

The head of Greenpeace UK has defended the need for one of the environmental group's top executives to fly to work several times a month, and apologised to supporters for a mistake that saw a member of its finance team lose £3m on currency markets.

Weird that Sauven - the UK boss - described the plan as "a mistake". Getting on the wrong plane one day would be a mistake. Planning and authorising this flying-to-work-on-expenses just looks sick.

Notice how GP DOESN'T point its kayaks, TV cameras & collecting tins towards where the most ecological damage is being done. Instead it's the easy targets of guilt ridden westerners in Canada or at the Great Barrier Reef etc

- China’s Island-Building Is Ruining Coral Reefs, Philippines Says NYT APRIL 13, 2015
- China building a 'great wall of SAND': Coral reefs are being turned into artificial islands - and experts warn it is a 'severe threat' to marine life Daily Mail 1 April 2015

On top of that the Reef expert told me that most tourist damage is done by Chinese tourists, cos they can't generally swim they the walk over the coral in rubber boots.

BTW There is something fishy going on with animal extinction NGOs and Rhinos in SE Asia
Whereas good work has been done in Africa bringing White Rhino back from near extinction 120 years ago, in SE Asia it's the opposite case for their local Rhino. The Sumatran Rhino used to be in hundreds over Sumatra, Southern Borneo, Sabah 50 years ago. Now down to 100 mostly in Sumatra. Only FOUR years ago numbers were supposed be 40 plus in North Borneo, yet now there's supposed to be none in the wild, with a 2010 camera recording of at least one sighted over the border in southern Borneo. The 3 in captivity in Sabah can't seem to breed due to uterus problems, talk of IVF. But in Java in 2012 cative Rhinos had 1 baby. IRF stats 2013 ..aha New story
- How did the numbers fall so badly when the NGOs are supposed to be watching them ? Bad previous counting, a clever double bluff to put poachers off the trail... I dunno.
- It would be a bit simplistic to blame deforestation, cos they live in clearings rather than the forest. It is possible that the hunting 100 years ago doomed them and that sparsity since has meant that wild mating has not been sustainable. The Javan Rhino has similar problem ..only 35 left.

Just another example of the utter irresponsibility of the Green movement, and further justification for Patrick Moore, one of the founders of Greenpeace taking his stance against this mob as he very eloquently explains in this video:
